The Evolution of Planning Poker. How teams can adopt various estimation techniques?
A long time ago, Agile, Scrum, and Extreme Programming creators and supporters described numerous aspects of their frameworks in detail but didn’t give any instructions about one of the most important ceremonies: a backlog estimation. Teams knew that they have to estimate, but there were no instructions on doing it by the book. It became more clear only when Mike Cohn promoted Planning Poker. Today, I want to introduce you to a concept that some Agile Poker users call the next step in Planning Poker evolution - the Hybrid of Achyncronous and classic interactive Planning Poker. Let’s call it Hybrid Poker for the convenience of this blog post.

User Story Mapping in Jira: Step by Step Guide
We commonly digest easily more complex ideas, concepts or processes when they are visualised or decomposed. That’s a natural brain ability. It is then easier to make sure everyone involved in the project understands it evenly. If we break down the idea into single elements or steps, we can be sure we don’t miss an important element, action or feature. This article looks closer at the concept of user story mapping, its benefits and a step by step guide to create a user story map in Jira.
[Success Story] How Mi9 Retail Moved Their PI Planning to the Remote Setup With Whiteboards for Jira
Due to the pandemic, there has been a massive shift to work from home. According to Gartner, 88% of organizations have encouraged or required their employees to work from home. While companies moved to remote work, they had to continue carrying out their regular activities, like project planning, retrospectives, brainstorming sessions, etc. In order to do so, they needed a convenient way to collaborate online and stay aligned across every sprint planning meeting or simply brainstorm the next big idea.

Project management is a busy job. As a project manager, you have a lot on your plate. You have multiple projects and tasks to track, timelines to manage, and team members and stakeholders to think about. That’s just the day-to-day. There are also high-level tasks, such as developing processes, monitoring business goals, and problem-solving.
Jira’s a great tool to help you manage projects. But it’s not without some drawbacks, especially if you want to gain insights over your project’s health, Jira lacks a big picture view. As a project manager, you need a more effective way to monitor the team’s progress, instead of going through each and every issue. While the roadmap feature provides a good overview of your product milestones, it’s only limited to Jira Cloud. For more effective project visualization, you can extend Jira capabilities with tools like custom charts, timelines, and even mind maps.

Have you recently moved to fully remote work due to the pandemic? Well, we are on the same boat then, and just as many teams we too are missing our whiteboard discussions, brainstorms, and creative vibes. We are no longer able to use Agile Cards for Jira, our shared physical boards with stickers, do the drawings, and all in-the-office perks. And since we love to collaborate, as we believe that way we can create value for our customers we were in the hunt for a solution that will support us in daily collaboration. We ended up coming up with the solution and help remote teams to restore their productivity in a remote work environment. Whiteboards for Jira app is an answer to this problem as it adds a virtual whiteboard functionality to Jira Cloud.
According to Agile practice, teams should be co-located, working together face to face. In reality, however, many Agile teams are not sharing an office space, not even work in the same time zone. Some teams, due to the unplanned circumstances, are forced to turn into remote teams and adjust the way they work.
Scrum Teams follow certain rules and ceremonies. The same goes for backlog estimations to assure the equal evaluation patterns at all times. Those rules need quick and easy checkpoints to protect the effectiveness and quality of final estimates.
In this article, I would like to share a simple checklist for effective estimations that will support Scrum Masters and Product Owners who estimate together with the Development Teams. Why is this list helpful?
